Major Rivers is a two-week water education unit. But Major Rivers, along with his horse Aquifer, has also become a star in this state-wide program for Texas.

The Major Rivers program, which was designed specifically for 4th-grade classrooms in Texas, supports many of the State's Essential Elements for science, social studies, and writing. In the unit, students learn to:
Identify the steps in the water cycle.

Identify basic facts about the water supply in Texas, including
the regional differences in rainfall, the amount of water supplied
by
surface water and by groundwater, and the state's major rivers and aquifers.

Identify the steps and processes of the water distribution system in Texas.

Recognize typical household water uses, and identify
which ones use the most water in a year's time.

Identify water conservation practices and assess personal habits.

Learning about water is fun with Major Rivers. Games, activities, as well as an informative video presentation are used to help students learn about the important resource of water in their state and to promote good conservation habits.
